Behind My Eyelids explores painting with inspiration drawn from the fractal light shows, patterns, and abstract scenes visualized behind closed eyes. The moments before sleep or the water splashing my head produce dancing light on an already prepared black canvas inside my head. Bouncing patterns and a range of colors that absorb each other, actively changing in contrast and visibility, create unrendered compositions that leave me itching to visualize what I just saw. The title also lends itself to the impact art and the pursuit of creativity has on me. Even when my eyes are closed I’m always thinking about my work. I often joke, practice while I sleep, and paint when I’m awake.
